About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2018.
West Palm Beach Golf Course has hosted a variety of tournaments since opening in 1947, some that have included famous players such as Arnold Palmer. This historic course stands out from all of the area's public courses. Unlike Florida's many flat courses, West Palm Beach has an undulating terrain that provides interesting elevation changes. The course features elevated tees and greens and rarely is there a flat lie. The rolling hills are covered with native vegetation, palm trees, and mature pines and oaks. There is also no water to be found on the golf course, another rare occurrence in this area. In 2009, the course underwent a major renovation that made it environmentally friendly. There is also a full grass driving range and large practice area that overlook West Palm Beach Golf Course.

West Palm Beach Golf Course Tired
I have played this course numerous times but prior to Today I had not played in the last year. I really like the layout and always felt it was a decent value. I am sorry to say this Course has really gone down hill. Starting at the range there are only mats that are just terrible as the tee area is completely dirt and weeds so it is closed. On to the course itself many of the tee boxes are pretty bare and many of the fairways are just awful, mostly dirt. I really liked this course and have no reason to give it a poor review but if you are anything but a beginner this course is not worth playing. I really hope the staff can bring this course back but it doesn’t look as though any effort is being put into maintenance.
Sand
Sand! Sand! Sand! Sugar sand off the fairways, sand eating up half the fairways, and an over abundance of bunkers at every turn makes this course absolutely miserable. You’re better off taking your sticks to the beach, at least you expect the dunes there. Staff was friendly, but not exactly task oriented. Snack bar at the turn was closed even at 930 but was promised by 9. Beer selection in pro shop looked like a post college party grab bag of 4 random beers. Liquor was $7 for an airplane bottle. Course played terribly, save your time and read that this is a municipal course. You’re better off ponying up 10 more dollars and playing somewhere nicer.
Deteriorating
Course continues to suffer from lack of maintenance. Greens have a few bare spots and slow. Worst part is fairways in that lack of water (no water on course) results in lack of turf and sand creeping over from rough (vegetation cut down and replaced with sand wastelands) creeping onto fairways. Some holes almost unplayable due to excessive sand creep. Better to try another course.
Cow pasture
This is an example of poor government !! Such a beautiful layout neglected!!! If they put some money in these Golf Course it could generate some revenue , look at the county courses!
I would never play this course again even if it was for free!!
Such an shame !!
Great Drainage
The course took the tropical storm the night before and was ready for play the following day.
City Wonder
Sprawling wonder of a layout, the day was bright and sunny virtually no wind, and minimal amount of other golfers in sight. Great day to work on tempo, swing adjustments, and practice skills development without impeding on other golfers. Always a delight playing the West Palm Beach golf course tucked behind Forest Hill High School and along Interstate 95.
Good Value
I got tee time with GolfNow hot deal for $10. For that price you can’t go wrong. Layout of course is nice and provides a challenge. If your looking for pristine fairways and greens this isn’t the place.
Relaxing yet spirited play
The golf played well given the heat and wind conditions. The grass cut seemed too short given the heat and short rain observed over the previous days. The rough inordinately deep compared to fairway grass cut. Play duration was awesome only saw four other groups of the course during play which allowed for a relaxed outing allowing for skills development and improved wedge play. Always an enjoyable course to play.
Horrifying conditions
I played this course for years every Saturday. After the “renovation” it’s been lack luster at best. It is now virtually unplayable. Leaving the tee box area is like driving over a mine field, fairways have huge areas with NO GRASS, areas with grass are sparse, green side areas that have grass lack cutting, greens had tons of bare spots and slow. Bunkers not groomed/raked. This is a very harsh review but is totally accurate. It is not possible to play a round of golf here without serious frustration.
No on-course management
I have played this course many times. Sometimes, if you're lucky, they won't have stacked up foursome after foursome but that's what happened yesterday. The first two holes were OK but by the time I got to the third hole, there were three groups on the hole - tee, fairway and green. I was playing as a single and there was no way I could wait to get thru so I just skipped two and played out the rest at a decent pace. There is no ranger, no on course mangement, no one trying to improve pace of play. You will get a load in by a low price ( that's what happened to me.) but be prepared to wait. Not bad course, and not in bad condition, but the pace of play will frustrate you.
Challenging
I have played this course 5 times within last couple of weeks. Very affordable when on a budget. Bring cooler with ice as I don't think they have an ice machine and not enough water on the course. No beverage car so if you don't bring your own you will have to wait for the turn to last nine for drinks. As far as the course it will improve your skills for fairway and greens bunkers. Will continue to play until I can break 90
