Deer Run is Old Convenient Mid-town Course
Being from Ohio, I play here a few times a year, and it seems this round was one of my more pleasant. The conditions were not bad; greens still not great, bunkers need sand, fairways need feed & moisture ---all things take huge amount of money to keep in shape. The Back9 is challenging, a good mix of par3s & par5s, a lot of water ---I guess my favorite is #16 (with a big 2tier green). At any rate, it was a fun speedy afternoon. Cart attendants & ProShop are very pleasant, but my highlight was a great time @ 19th hole w/Bartender Jessie & some Members.
If you know where it's going... fun.
If you don't, there are plenty of bunkers, ditches, ponds, trees, streets and yards to stop the ball. If you can make yourself hit it 200 off the tee, you're fine. Bomb it on some holes and you never see it again.
IMO, one of the tougher 6300 yard courses in the area.
Good Practice Facility
Have played here numerous times -- convenient location and easy on the pocketbook. Good course to "practice" on as it's not too difficult (shot 81) but conditions are not stellar --- greens need some attention and fairways are a bit 'weedy' -- tough to get a good lie in the fairway.
tourney
It would be nice if Golfnow got current info from the courses. There was a big high school fund raiser event in the morning and into the afternoon. Had to wait over 30 minutes past tee time and then sit at every tee box as these golfers were not ones that played regularly.
I quit after 15 as over 4 hours was not happening and 5 o'clock rush over was coming on.
I booked a time once at another course which was just closed and did not know until I got there.
Golfnow needs to get today's information...thank you very much for wasting most of my day
Needs improvements.
Although it was in the middle of a long weekend, the pace was too slow and greens on many holes were severely damaged.
Great course for the price.
The folks were friendly, golf carts were new, and we were able to play in 3 hours; but many of the greens have severe damage.
Overall, course in pretty good shape
Our round was a bit long due to morning fog (can't be helped) and the club championship going on which included some dastardly pin placements, but fun. The fairways were in above average shape given our recent cold weather. Some of the greens had rough spots as did the fairways but well marked as ground under repair. The staff at this course is always accommodating and friendly. Deer Run is a good value for the price and an interesting layout.
Round could have been more enjoyable
Our 2some was going along nicely until the 3rd hole when we got stuck behind a 5some. After that it was stop and go. We slowed down considerably to let them get ahead of us atleast a hole and a half but we caught up to them once again. It is very unfortunate that they would not let us play through. That is when you need a marshal out there to handle such situations. We finished the round in a little over 4 hours. We could have done it in 3.5. If the course mngmt lets 5 guys play together it’s their choice but should tell these guys to let 2some or even 3some play through.
Good course for the price
I found CC of Deer Run to be staffed with EXTREMELY nice and accommodating people. As in past years, the course is in good shape. The greens have a few bad spots here and there but nothing to impact playability. The fairways are consistent with the time of year insofar as the grass being a bit sparse and brown but also no problem. The course layout is FUN and challenging. Aside from being behind an INCREDIBLY SLOW foursome who was oblivious to the backup they were causing, I enjoyed golfing at CC of Deer Run and will go back. The course is definitely worth the modest price.
Course Needs Attention
This laid back course is a nice atmosphere to play on however, the course needs serious attention. The greens are in pretty bad shape right now and the fairways have a lot of very thin and bare spots which relates to making second shots off of hard pack dirt. Traps were reasonably loose. Ball washers are almost non existent. I do enjoy the layout of the course and will pay here when a good hot deal is offered, otherwise there are other courses in far better shape to play.
The staff has always been friendly and accommodating and the carts are in good shape.
Always a favorite
Great course , great staff and the very reason this course is always a favorite. Great day with an eagle on # 10 and the first for the new Scotty putter, good news for me, bad news for the pro who was hoping to pick it up cheap after it's first two disappointing rounds, price just went up after yesterdays round!
Challenging
For seniors, the course plays long but helped that the ball runs on the tight lies. Greens are in good shape and a bit quick. Interesting, challenging holes.
Overall a good Golf Now bargain.
