Pine Oaks of Ocala

Course is scheduled to close at some point and it really shows. Tee boxes and greens are horrendous! Just terrible. I wouldn’t play this course again unless it’s in the 8-10 dollar range.

The course was in need of water,the greens were in poor shape. Some holes had sponge rough around the green. It seemed as though there was a problem with watering system. We were put behind a group of 6 preparing for a tournament on the 23rd. Regardless faster players should always be allowed to play through we had to wait on every hole. We were greeted with a negative attitude , we knew our tee time was at a certain time but we were told we would have to wait until that time no problem.

This could be an ice course if the course could get some maintenance. Nice cart paths. Greens need work and water and fairways need water. We encountered holes 16,17,and 18 all ha d spongee rough around the greens.

Got a great price and the course is scheduled for a championship play coming weekend. Despite the news that the course will close and be converted to housing area in two months I thought the course should be in good shape with upcoming championship play. Not so! Almost all the greens had bad sanded down areas. The layout is good but maintenance is on the last legs. Housing development has already started. Sad to see one of the better municipal courses go away!

The course layout and conditions are only average at best but the course runs through beautiful towering pines, majestic oaks and abundant lakes and ponds. It is aesthetically one of my favorite Florida courses.

I could have played a better kept course if I would have planted flags in a horse paddock. There is not a spec of "fairway" in the fairways and that's the good part.
The "greens" looked like the surface of the moon and that's mean to the moon.
Paid good golf course money for well below, below average course condition.

Seriously, if you're thinking of going here send me $10.00 and come to my house and hit some balls in my yard. It'll be more rewarding.

Course is possibly closing in April 2019. Greens are in rough shape on half.

We have played here for the past 15 years & the course has been in better shape than it is now, but with it being up in the air about being sold, we have no problem getting on the course and having people in front or back of us. We like it that way & will play there until the city of Ocala decides what to do with it.

Our group has golfed at this course for 15 years. It is usually easy to get a tee time with no problem & we can play at a relaxed pace. The greens aren’t the best they could be but we still enjoy playing this course.

I like to play different courses, and I found this course pooping up on GolfNow. Latest reviews were 3 years old, so I took a chance. Great people in the Pro Shop and the Starter was very helpful with info about the course; its history, current situation, future plans, etc. This review is by no means a knock on any of the staff or people that call it home. This is to let others like me that like to venture to, and play at new/different courses. As I started my round, I quickly understood the explanation I got before I started concerning the conditions. Again, great people, but the course was in a deep state of neglect. Not because the good people didn't want to present a good product, but it is/was a Muni and the amount of $$ (or I should say lack thereof) appropriated for it has caused it demise. I hate to write this, and I hope everyone understands that, to me, it is not a reflection of the staff, but a reflection of the $$ reality.

The layout of this course is fine, typical muni with a definite "old Florida" feel. Most holes are pretty straight so shaped shots don't come into play a lot, but water definitely comes into play on most holes. In fact, right now there is way more water than there should be. I'm not sure if it's due to extra rain lately but many of the hazards have run over, creating standing water in the fairways and in other areas where there would not typically be a hazard. Rough was overgrown too. If you miss the fairway by a few feet be prepared to potentially lose your ball. Hard to enjoy your round when this happens multiple times. Some greens looked good, some looked bad, but even the ones that looked good were incredibly slow.

We played as a foursome and got chased by singles and twosomes all day. I understand a single playing a twilight round but the clubhouse needs to be pairing people up for 10:00 tee times. We didn't see any other groups with three or more. This is frustrating because you're looking at a 5 1/2 hour round if you let every group play through, but if you don't let them through you are constantly rushed. Clearly Pine Oaks is just happy to be bringing in players.

Blue tees aren't overly difficult but the tight layout means blue tee boxes very near the previous hole's green and you become a prime target for the approach shot of the group behind you. Some holes like #18 are ridiculous with the tee box placement. To get to the blues you have to drive around a pond and up the cart path of another hole to get to the tees.

I'm from Gainesville so Pine Oaks would be a decent option here considering the lack of good public courses; the value is still decent for $20. But in Ocala you are better off finding a hot deal or paying a few bucks more to play elsewhere.
