St. Johns Golf Club has some stiff competition with upscale Ponte Vedra Inn & Club and the World Golf Village courses just a short drive away, but the club manages to hold its own thanks to the great variety it offers and the more affordable rates. The golf course is in Elkton, known as potato farm country to locals, which is conveniently only minutes outside of downtown St. Augustine. There are 27 championship holes at the club, which are played in three different 18-hole combinations. The North/South golf course begins with one of the tougher nines but ends with more player-friendly holes where you can recoup your score. One of the most difficult holes at the club is the final hole of the North nine. This daunting par 5 requires a long carry over water in order to reach the green in two.
