I wouldn't say it was a hidden gem as their website states. It is mediocre at best. Very friendly staff but pro shop under stocked and no food available for lunch. Very little signage on the course so it was very difficult to know where the next hole was. I had to keep comparing the yardage on the scorecard with my GPS to guess that we were playing the correct hole. Greens were decent but slow. Fairways were okay but very wet. Expected after the previous rain. Good value for the amount we paid but because it was a one hour drive we probably will not return soon.

This course is beautiful and great to play. Most of the staff there are wonderful and make you feel like family. They seem very friendly and a pleasure to meet and be around. The lady working the bar was such a delight and she made me an awesome drink. I met two guys working maintenance. They were both very helpful and friendly. I found out from other people that the course is on such a small budget those two gentlemen don't get paid much for the work they do and the old equipment they have to use which breaks down and they have to fix it their self. I found out many of the employees work extra hours they do not get paid for just to keep the course up an running. I did meet the manager and the president and neither one of them seemed very friendly especially the president I felt a lot of tension around him. I also don't think he shows any of the employees any gratitude for all the hard underpaid work they have done out there. I also went to the pool which was nice and refreshing.I met a nice young lady out there who was a delight to talk to. I had asked her if she worked there because she was pulling up all the weeds growing threw the cement around the pool. She said no she did not work there. She told me that she and her children loved the pool and it is the only thing in the area for them to really do and the maintance guys had so much work that she tried to keep things around the pool cleaned up and also made sure any garbage left behind by others was picked up before she left. She also told me of some other things she had done to help out at the golf course that I'm sure we're a big help to the guys working out there. I'm sure she has gone unnoticed of her time and efforts. I think the only reason they still have their employees is because there are not many jobs in Defuniak and people have to work. I just really hate seeing people stuck working for bad ungrateful employers. I would like to say to those great employees and one non employee thank you for all your hard work and devotion all of u have put in to that place it really is a great course to golf and just really beautiful. Maybe if they just let their employees run things it could be even better. Keep up the great work and hopefully one day it will come back to you all. I'm sure if you all didn't do all the extra work you all do that place would for sure fall apart and be shut down . so if u want a place to golf I do recommend Defuniak springs golf course and country club you will live it but I also recommend you avoid their uptight unfriendly president.
