IMG Academy Golf Club offers a challenging, but rewarding golf experience no matter what skill level. Towering oaks and pine trees dot the course as well as a few sparkling lakes. Opened in 1972, the golf course underwent a major renovation in 2003 that has made it one of the most technically advanced golf courses in southwest Florida. The course was lengthened to 6,842 yards and two holes were rerouted, which created an island green on the 10th hole. The grass is a modern hybrid developed specifically for Southern courses. It is a thicker, denser grass that allows the balls to "sit up" better. With five different sets of tees, IMG Academy Golf Club is a test for low handicappers but it is also fair and approachable for higher handicappers.

The practice area is small and poorly maintained. You were limited to practicing your irons from the range. They did have a chipping and putting area. The golf carts were old and dirty. The course was relatively well kept and challenging. Some very narrow fairways.
However, the pace of play was glacial! I know that things can get slow, but this was extreme. It took 2:45 mins to complete nine holes. We didn't see a course ranger the entire time! It would have made no difference if we had skipped ahead we were backed up by 3 groups at one tee. To add insult to injury the group behind us kept hitting up on us. We left at the turn because I didn't want to play a 6hr round of golf. There are many more enjoyable places to play in Bradenton/Sarasota area.
